Public meetings scheduled to review mitigation plan

Clearwater County is nearing completion of the Clearwater County Multi-Jurisdiction All Hazard Mitigation Plan and public meetings are being scheduled.

The final planning document shall include individual mitigation plans for the communities of Elk River, Orofino, Pierce, and Weippe. The city jurisdiction plans will be reviewed during regularly scheduled city council meetings at Weippe City Hall at 7 p.m. on April 11, at Pierce City Hall at 8 p.m. on April 11, at Elk River City Hall at 6:30 p.m. on April 12, and at Orofino City Hall at 7 p.m. on April 25. The complete, multi-jurisdiction document will be presented at the public meeting on April 25 at 3:30 p.m. at the Clearwater County Commission Office.

The purpose of the plan is to assist local communities in analyzing the impact of natural, technological, and societal hazards and in developing projects to reduce the negative impact of hazards before occurrence.

At the meetings, the public will have a chance to review the proposed mitigation actions developed by the Clearwater County All Hazard Mitigation Planning Task Force for flood, landslide, wildfire, earthquake, winter storm, loss of electrical power, telecommunication, and key employer/economic crisis.
