Every year on Christmas eve my family would load up in the car head to my aunt’s house in Ferdinand, Idaho. If we were fortunate enough, there would be snow and my cousin and I would drag our runner sleds to the end of the lane from the house. Then we would sled down the windy Westlake road from the end of the lane to the bottom of the hill at his grandparent’s place. It was about 1 mile on a gravel road in complete darkness. When those runners would hit a piece of gravel it would spark a flare of light. We would do it for hours, until we went back in late in the night to go to midnight mass with the entire group of families present. Long sled ride and long walk, multiple times those nights!
