National Weather Service issues Winter Weather Advisory

National Weather Service-Missoula has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for snow and blowing snow in parts of Clearwater County that is in effect from 1 a.m. to 11 a.m. Pacific Standard Time Saturday.

Periods of snow and blowing snow will result in low visibility and hazardous travel conditions late Friday night through Saturday morning. They are forecasting snow accumulations of one to two inches on the Camas Prairie and two to four inches over White Bird and Greer grades.

They expect wind to be 15 to 25 miles per hour, gusting to 35 mph. Gusts to 45 mph at times near Grangeville are possible.

Locations of impact include: Elk River, State Highway 11 Pierce to Headquarters, Pierce, Greer Grade, Camas Prairie, Grangeville and vicinity, U.S. Highway 95 State Creek to Riggins and White Bird Grade.

Tonight, Friday, Orofino, at elevation 1040 feet above sea level, is expected to have rain showers before 4 a.m. and then snow showers, but there is little or no accumulation expected.

Saturday, they are forecasting rain and snow showers early and they rain after 10 a.m. The snow level is expected to be 1100 feet rising to 2200 feet. New snow accumulation of less than half an inch is possible. West southwest winds between 17 and 23 mph, with gusts to 37 mph are also forecast. Saturday night, there is a 50 percent chance of snow showers and new accumulation of one to two inches is possible. West winds between 11 and 18 mph, with gusts to 30 mph are also forecast.

NWS-Missoula is forecasting that Pierce, at elevation 3241 feet, will have scattered rain showers before 10 p.m. Friday and then rain and snow showers Total night time accumulations of three to five inches are possible.

Saturday, snow showers are forecast with total daytime accumulations of two to four inches possible. West southwest winds between 15 and 20 mph, with gusts as high as 31 mph, are also forecast. Snow showers are likely to continue Saturday night with new accumulations of one to three inches possible.

Weippe, at elevation 2998 feet, is expected to get scattered rain showers before 10 p.m. Friday and then rain and snow showers. The snow level at 4100 feet is expected to lower to 3100 feet. Less than one inch of new accumulation is possible.

Saturday, NWS-Missoula is forecasting snow showers and west southwest winds between 15 and 20 mph, with gusts as high as 31 mph. New snow accumulation of two to four inches is possible. Saturday night, snow showers are likely with new accumulations of one three inches possible. West winds between 11 and 16 mph, with gusts to 24 mph, are forecast.

Elk River, at elevation 2998, is forecast to have rain and snow showers after 10 p.m., then snow showers. The snow level is expected to lower to 3000 feet. Chance of precipitation is 100 percent and total nighttime snow accumulation of less than one inch is possible.

Saturday night, snow showers are likely with west southwest winds between 11 and 16 mph, with gusts to 24 mph. New snow accumulation of one to three inches is possible.
