Community invited to join in VFW memorials

The community is invited to join Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #3296 and Auxiliary in special Memorial Day activities Monday, May 29, to honor their fallen comrades.

Beginning at 6 a.m., 106 flags will be placed at Riverside Cemetery and 10 at Weseman Cemetery. Members of the community are encourged to assist in putting up the flags.

At 10 a.m., the VFW and Auxiliary will hold a memorial ceremony at Canon Park and then proceed to the Orofino Bridge to honor those who have died on the sea in special rites. Next they will go to Riverside Cemetery to continue their observance. Weseman Cemetery will be the site of their final memorial ceremony.

Flags placed earlier in the day will be taken down at 6 p.m. beginning at Riverside Cemetery and community members are invited to assist the veterans.

According to Post Commander Don Stork, if there is rain, the flags will not be put up at the cemeteries.
