VFW sets Veterans Day commemoration activities

Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #3296 of Orofino has number of activities planned in connection with Veterans Day commemorations Thursday through Saturday.

Thursday they will provide a color guard, playing of taps and commemoration speeches at an Orofino High School assembly.

One of the favorite activities is the Chili and Stew Luncheon that will be held Friday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the VFW Building. The meal is free for veterans and the cost is $3 for non-veterans. There will also be a table with 50 cent desserts. Everyone in the community is invited to come and honor veterans. They will also be selling buddy poppies around town.

The Marine Corps Birthday festivities will begin Friday with a breakfast at the Krystal Cafe' at 8 a.m. for all former Marines. That evening Marines and their guests are invited to a dinner and dance at the Best Western Lodge at River's Edge. There will be a no host cocktail hour beginning at 6 p.m. and dinner will be served at 7. There will be live music by the Paradons for the dance. Cost is $25 per person.

Saturday, they will be at the Lewiston Veterans Home for commemoration activities.

Dr. Mary Holley, Founder of Mothers Against Meth will be speaking in Clearwater County this week. Friday, Nov. 10 at 7:30 p.m. Weippe Community Hall Saturday, Nov. 11 at 10:00 a.m. Orofino VFW Hall in Orofino. Special Guests will include: Idaho Drug Czar Jim Tibbs Chairman Criminal Justice Commission & Director of Juvenile Justice: Brent Reinke Idaho Criminal Justice: Tony Wilkerson Office of the Governor: Jenn Andrews This is an excellent opportunity to listen to Dr. Holley give educational information on addiction within the body, the mind, and the spirit.
