The Affleck Drug advertisement just below the roof line of the IOOF Hall is the answer for Week 188 of Orofino History Trivia a special feature to celebrate the history and heritage of Clearwater Country. Watch for historical photos next week. Join in the discovery! Monday: It's fading. Tuesday: A sign of the times Wednesday: Its original purpose is gone Thursday: Over everyone's heads Friday: It advertised something inside Saturday: Most people don't even notice it. Monday: Look up on the way toward Canada Hill. Tuesday: IOOF Building Wednesday: Just below the roof line Thursday: It started with A Friday: What it advertised moved down the street a few buildings in 1916. Affleck Drug was one of the first businesses in the IOOF building after it was constructed in 1905. It was located in the corner where the Style Shop is today. The business later moved down the street to the building where the FISH Thrift Store is now. The "A" in advertisement on the side of the building is still visible, though the other letters have become too faded to distinguish. Above is a photo of early day Orofino looking up what is now Johnson Ave. It was then called Main. Near the left of the photo is the Affleck sign on the side of the IOOF Hall. The corner of the Helgeson is on the right of the photo. Notice the dirt road that goes up the hill. Below is Affleck Druggist after 1916 when it moved to another location further down the street.
