Basin snowpack at 80 percent Jan. 1

Snow water equivalent (SWE) on the Clearwater Basin was 80 percent of average on Jan. 1, according to the Natural Resources Conservation Service.

Below are the statistics for the individual sites on the basin:

  • Cool Creek at 6,280 feet above sea level had 62 inches of snow with 17 inches of SWE which is 4.8 inches below the average. Last year on the same date it had 13.7 inches of SWE.
  • Crater Meadows at 5,960 feet above sea level had 56 inches of snow with 17.1 inches of SWE which is 2.8 inches below the average. Last year on the same date it had 18.5 inches of SWE.
  • Elk Butte at 5,690 feet above sea level has 39 inches of snow with 8.7 inches of SWE which is 8.3 inches below average. Last year on the same date it had 9.9 inches of SWE.
  • Hemlock Butte at 5,810 feet above sea level had 50 inches of snow with 13.8 inches of SWE which is 6.6 inches below the average. Last year on the same date it had 13.5 inches of SWE.
  • Hoodoo Basin at 6,050 feet above sea level had 67 inches of snow with 17.1 inches of SWE which is 2.2 inches below the average. Last year on the same date it had 12.3 inches of SWE.
  • Lolo Pass at 5,240 feet above sea level had 42 inches of snow with 11.4 inches of SWE which is 1.6 inches below the average. Last year on the same date it had 6.8 inches of SWE.
  • Lost Lake at 6,110 feet above sea level has 17.7 inches of SWE which is 9.4 inches below the average. Last year on the same date it had 15.9 inches of SWE.
  • Moscow Mountain at 4,700 feet above sea level had 25 inches of snow with 7.7 inches of SWE and there is no average available.
  • Mountain Meadows at 6,360 feet above sea level had 34 inches of snow with 9.9 inches of SWE which is .6 inches above the average. Last year on the same date it had 8.1 inches of SWE.
  • Nez Perce Camp at 5,650 feet above sea level had 27 inches of snow with 7.1 inches of SWE which is 1.0 inch above the average. Last year on the same date it had 3.7 inches of SWE.
  • Savage Pass at 6,170 feet above sea level had 42 inches of snow with 9.9 inches of SWE which is 1.8 inches below the average. Last year on the same date it had 7.6 inches of SWE.
  • Shanghai Summit at 4,570 feet above sea level had 23 inches of snow with 6.5 inches of SWE which is 4.7 inches below the average. Last year on the same date it had 4.6 inches of SWE.
  • Sherwin at 3,200 feet above sea level has 2.4 inches of SWE which is 2.7 inches below the average. Last year on the same date it had 1.6 inches of SWE.
  • Twelvemile Creek at 5,600 feet above sea level had 28 inches of snow with 8.4 inches of SWE which is .9 inches below the average. Last year on the same date it had 4.7 inches of SWE.
  • Twin Lakes at 6,400 feet above sea level had 57 inches of snow with 17.5 inches of SWE which is the average. Last year on the same date it had 12.1 inches of SWE.
