Web site provides information on change in sales tax BOISE-Retailers and consumers can get information about Idaho's sales and use tax rate change at www.tax.idaho.gov, the Idaho State Tax Commission's web site. The tax rate will increase to 6 percent on Oct. 1 as a result of a law passed during a special legislative session in August. The web site's home page links to information on how the new rate will affect retailers and to FAQs (frequently asked questions) about sales and use tax. The button also leads to a new 6 percent rate chart, which is designed to help businesses determine how much tax to charge on sales. The 6 percent sales tax rate applies to sales made on or after Oct. 1. The use tax rate, which also changes to 6 percent, applies to untaxed products first used or stored in Idaho on or after Oct. 1, unless an exemption applies. More information about use tax is available on the web site through the "Web & Catalog Shoppers" button. The Tax Commission is mailing information and 6 percent rate charts to more than 55,000 retailers, along with their tax returns. Retailers and others with questions about the sales and use tax rate change can call the Tax Commission toll free at (800) 972-7660. |
