Pigs released in fair barn

Complaints of pigs and chickens being released in the Clearwater County Fair Livestock Barn late Saturday, Sept. 16, were investigated by law enforcement and the city has declined to file any charges at this time, according to a memorandum from City Attorney Clayne Tyler.

From reports and witness statements, it appears that several pigs were let loose in the barn. It likely occurred after 10:30 p.m. when the night watchman left. Though there are conflicting statements about who let the animals loose, it does not seem that they were let out for the purpose of fighting or with the intent that the pigs engage in any abusive or injurious activities. It does appear that it was joke of some sort, the memorandum says. Therefore animal cruelty charges do not apply. He said reports of chicken fights were totally incorrect.

However, Tyler expressed concern about behaviors that could bring other charges such as obstructing a law enforcement officer.
