Online parenting classes scheduled

Online parenting classes by Nathalie Kretzmann, M.S. of Kretzmann Family Counseling will begin Sept. 26 for both parents of 2-12 year olds and parents of 10-18 year olds.

The "Raising Happy Children" series for parents of 2-12 year olds will cover topics including:

  • How to help an angry child
  • How to discipline without yelling or anger
  • Simple, respectful discipline techniques
  • The key to stop arguing with children
  • Character development
  • The power of words
  • Bedtime
  • Homework
  • Back talk
  • Staying calm

Classes are:

  • Sept. 26-The Foundation
  • Oct. 3-Positive Discipline
  • Oct. 10-More About Discipline
  • Oct. 17-Keeping Cool when Kids Push Your Buttons

The "Raising Happy Teens" series for parents of 10-18 year olds will cover topics such as:

  • strengthening relationships
  • communicating
  • running away
  • suicide threats
  • drugs and alcohol
  • peer influence
  • effective grounding
  • dating and supervision

Classes are:

  • Sept. 26-The Foundation
  • Oct. 2-Preparation for the Teen Years
  • Nov. 7-Specific Issues
  • Nov. 14-Tough Issues

The classes will be on Tuesdays (except Oct. 31) from 6-7:30 p.m. Pacific Time. The cost is $15 per class. Idaho residents may participate free through a limited number of scholarships provided by the Idaho Children's Trust Fund. Scholarship recipients will be required to attend at least three of four classes in the series and to pay a $20 deposit. The deposit will be held (not cashed) until they have attended three classes. It will be returned at that point. The deposit will be cashed if the participant does not attend at least three classes.
