OJHS athletes compete at 2006 YMCA Invitational

The Orofino Junior High School track teams did fantastic at the 2006 YMCA Track and Field Invitational held at Bronco Stadium on the campus of Boise State University in Boise on April 28 and 29.

Special appreciation to Principal Shannon Wilson for encouraging our athletes to compete at this meet. Qualifying for the meet were Chelsea Lundgren (long jump, triple jump, 100 meters, 200 meters); Seth Melton (400 meter run, 800 meter run, 1600 meter run); Silas Hull (pole vault, 100 meter hurdles, 200 meter hurdles); Austin Summers (100 meter dash, 200 meter dash, 400 meter dash, long jump); Barry Knapp (high jump, shot put); Dan Deitrick (shot put); Jesse Faler (discus); Nick Pomponio (discus); Sean Perkins (discus); Brent Hoffman (800 meter run); and Nick Brewer (800 meter run). Also, making the trip and running in relay competition were Gage Presnell, Alex Schrock, Daniel Korbel, Kyler Dupea, Gilbert Gray, Clinton Garrett, Steven Elsbury, and Jordan Anderson.

Highlights for OJHS athletes at the meet were Chelsea Lundgren 1st place in both the long jump and triple jump and placed 2nd in the 100 meter dash and 200 meter dash. She set a meet record in the triple jump with a jump of 34' 3". Silas Hull recorded a 1st place in the pole vault and 100 meter hurdles and a 5th place in the 200 meter hurdles. He was racing his first 100 meter and 200 meter hurdle races of his career. Seth Melton set new Orofino Junior High Seventh Grade boys records in the 800 meter run and 1600 meter run. Special appreciation to Kevin and Christine Korbel, Nancy Knapik, and John Elsbury for helping to transport the athletes to and from Boise and their encouragement of the athletes at the meet.

The results of the 2006 YMCA Track and Field Invitational for the Orofino Junior High athletes are as follows: Seventh and Eighth grade girls 100 meter dash: 2nd-Chelsea Lundgren 13.1; Seventh and Eighth grade girls 200 meter dash: 2nd-Chelsea Lundgren 28.37; Seventh and Eighth grade girls long jump: 1st-Chelsea Lundgren 15' 1"; Seventh and Eighth grade girls triple jump: 1st-Chelsea Lundgren 34' 3" (Seventh and Eighth grade YMCA Track and Field Invitational track meet record and Orofino Junior High Eighth grade girls record); 100 meter hurdles: 1st-Silas Hull 16.34 (new Orofino Junior High Seventh grade record); 200 meter hurdles: 5th-Silas Hull 30.19 (new Orofino Junior High Seventh grade record); medley relay: 6th-Orofino (Gage Presnell, Dan Deitrick, Alex Schrock, Barry Knapp) 2:01.12; 800 meter run: 6th-Seth Melton 2:20.09 (new Orofino Junior High Seventh grade record) 100 meter dash: 4th-Austin Summers 12.3(tie); 400 meter dash: 12th-Seth Melton 1:04.11, 14th-Austin Summers 1:07.21; 400 meter relay: 9th-Orofino (Gage Presnell, Dan Deitrick, Alex Schrock, Brent Hoffman) 55.8; 1600 meter run: 6th-Seth Melton 5:14.79 (new Orofino Junior High 7th grade record) 200 meter dash: 11th-Austin Summers 26.75; 1600 meter relay: 5th-Orofino (Alex Schrock, Brent Hoffman, Silas Hull, Seth Melton) 4:39.5; long jump: 9th-Austin Summers 15’ 7 1/2"; shot put: 7th-Dan Deitrick 35' 11"; high jump: 8th(tie)-Barry Knapp 4' 4"; pole vault: 1st-Silas Hull 8' 6".
