OJHS students gather over 35,000 tabs Kiwanis Club of Orofino treated the student body of Orofino Junior High School to a pizza party Wednesday to thank them for their commitment to gathering aluminum can tabs for the Ronald McDonald House in Spokane, WA. The students brought in over 35,000 tabs they had gathered during the summer and first part of September. Last spring students brought in several bottles of tabs for donation to the Ronald McDonald House. Kiwanis Past President Stephanie Sweener challenged them to gather double that amount of tabs during the summer and if they did, there would be a pizza party. Three students earned special recognition. They were the top tabs gatherers: first-James Sharrard with 7,160; second-Mariah Cunningham with 2,252 and third-Ryan Fore with 2,100. These students received gift certificates. Cunningham was absent the day of the presentation. Gathering the tabs is one of the ongoing projects of Kiwanis Club of Orofino. They deliver the tabs to the Ronald McDonald House. The tabs are sold and the funds are used to help pay for the stay of Orofino area families whose children are hospitalized in Spokane.
