Maniacs host wrestling tourney

Three Orofino High School seniors were honored during opening ceremonies of the Orofino Maniacs High School Wrestling Tournament Feb. 3.

Mckenzie Snyder was honored for her work for the past three years as the announcer of the matches. For Piotr Jelito, a foreign exchange student from Poland, this is his first year of wrestling. While doing so, he kept his grade point average at 4.0. Sebastian Brenner, a foreign exchange student from Germany, is too wrestling for the first time. He has been able to keep a 3.8 GPA while wrestling. Gifts and balloons were presented to the honorees.

The wrestlers from OHS, Prairie and Grangeville were well matched and brought a lot of excitement to the crowds.

The award for the most heart goes to Justin Upton. He had control of his opponent in the first period. Then he became plagued with nose problems and then in the third round got a cramp in his leg. Yet, he continued to fight hard only to lose his match in the third round.

Thomas Dietrick gets the award for getting the job done. In Thomas's final match, he pinned his opponent in the first few seconds.

Joe Bledsoe, Jason Sperber, and Zain Hixson also won their matches.

After the match coach Garrett Bretz commented that this is and learning and building year for the team.

OHS wrestlers will have their next matches will be in Moscow Feb. 8th at 6 p.m.
