Lady Maniacs stay alive in district tournament The house was full Tuesday night as the Orofino Lady Maniacs seeded third in the tournament, took on first seed Kamiah Kubs in game five of the District 2A Volleyball Tournament at the Orofino High School gym. Both teams came out fighting for their lives since it was a loser out match in the tournament. The only difference in game one between the two teams was that Orofino had trouble hitting the ball into the net instead of over it. Kamiah took round one by the score 25-13. Game two was different with the Lady Maniacs coming out firing the ball with excellent serves. Kamiah called time out when the score was 6-1 Orofino. From there the two teams battled it out until the score was 18-12 Orofino, when again Kamiah called a time out. Orofino went on to win this one by the score of 25-18. Game three was tight with both teams fighting hard for the win. When the score reached 16-15 Orofino Coach Julie Roby called a time out. Jessica Roby came out and scored three good serves to make it 19-15. Kamiah called time out when the score reached 22-18 Orofino. Kamiah then came back within two points, but the Lady Maniacs went on to win the game by the score of 26-24. Kamiah came out more grounded in game four and beat the Lady Maniacs by eight points with a final Kamiah 25, Orofino 17. Game five was "do or die" and both teams knew it. They each came out fighting for each point and the game was kept very close. Time out was called with the score 7-7. It was called again with the score 12-10 Orofino. The whole gym went up in a roar when Orofino scored the winning point to end the game with the score 16-14. Kamiah goes home in fourth place. Orofino plays Grangeville tonight at 5 p.m. Loser gets third place and the winner goes on to play Potlatch for the Championship at 6:15 p.m. |
