OHS Varsity rolls over Potlatch by Mike Butler The Orofino High School Varsity Maniac Basketball team hosted the Potlatch High School Loggers at Orofino High School last night. Potlatch Loggers started off cold much to the delight of the Orofino Maniacs. The Maniacs applied their own pressure on the Loggers after they tried using the full court press. Orofino continued to work the ball into the basket. They also had control of the boards even though Potlatch had a height advantage. OHS pretty much controlled the first half. Halftime score was Orofino 27 Potlatch 17. Third quarter was not a lot different than the first two quarters as Orofino continued to control the game. However, the fourth was a different story. Both teams picked up the pace of the game and it became a very intense, very aggressive quarter. Fouls became important as each team had gone over the 10 foul rule. That means each player that gets fouled gets two shots at the basket. In the end, Orofino was able to come out on top of this one by a final of Orofino 66 Potlatch 27. Jarod Magnum took top honors shooting 25 points in the game. Wayde Garland came in second shooting 20 points. The Maniacs shot 37 per cent from the field and 59 percent from the line. The next game for the Maniacs is Feb. 2 at 7:30 p.m. at home against Clearwater Valley High School. Photo: Wayde Garland makes a shot. |
