Maniac Junior Varsity Basketball Team beats Kamiah by Mike Butler Zone defense and controlling the boards were the keys in Orofino's Junior Varsity Basketball Team's win over the Kamiah Kubs Junior Varsity Thursday evening. First round action saw the two JV teams compete against one another. Orofino pretty much controlled the boards and their zone defense kept the Kubs under control in the first half. The Maniac zone defense only allowed outside shots from the Kamiah Kubs and those they could not complete. Half time score was Orofino 27 Kamiah 16. The second half of the ball game was all Orofino and they never looked back. Nathan Struhs was top scorer for the Maniacs with 15 points. Zac Goodrich helped out with 12 points. Orofino JVs shot 60 per cent from the field and 75 percent from the free throw line. Final on this one was Orofino 53 and Kamiah 31. Next game for the JV team will be at Prairie Jan. 25 at 6 p.m. They will be playing Summit High School. In earlier action Thursday, the Orofino High School C Squad hosted Nezperce High School. That game came down to the wire but the Orofino Maniacs fell short by one point with a final of Nez Perce 48 Orofino 47. Photos: Top--Carey Chambers (left) goes up for the shot.
