Homecoming was not enough The Orofino High School went down to defeat for the first time this year as the Kamiah Kubs came to play football Friday night in Orofino. It was Homecoming for the Orofino Maniacs, but that did not bother the Kubs as they beat Orofino by the score of 20-0. The score does not tell the story of the very defensive game that was played. All three touchdowns by Kamiah were scored in the first half, due to the kindness of the Maniacs. The Maniacs fumbled the ball five times and Kamiah was the recipient of four of those fumbles. They scored on three of those sets of downs. In the first half, Orofino was only able to gain 59 yards rushing, while Kamiah was able to gain 114 yards rushing and 57 yards passing. At halftime the royalty was presented. This year's homecoming queen is Tracci Dial. Her escort was Wade Garland. Senior Class representative was Jessica Roby and her escort was Aaron Downing. Junior Class representative was Kelsey Stemrich and her escort was Justin Haag. Sophomore Class representative was Shelby Mathis and her escort was Justin Peterson. Freshman Class representative was Amy Krupa and her escort was Austin Jasper. The second half of the game was pretty much like the first half. Orofino fumbled the ball in scoring territory, but Garland had had enough and caused the Kamiah quarterback to cough up the ball. Downing took the Maniacs down the field but was not able to get any closer than the six yard line. Downing did pass a touch down to Sean Diffen from that point but the score did not count as there was a holding call on the play against the Maniacs. The ball was placed on the 19 yard line and a pass was thrown only for Orofino to get back to the six yard line. They needed the five yard line for a first down. This was when the clock had about three minutes left to play in the game. Orofino finished the night with 160 yards rushing and 26 yards passing. Kamiah racked up 191 yards rushing and 54 yards passing. The two teams will meet again in three weeks at Kamiah. In the meantime, Orofino travels to Grangeville next Friday and Potlatch comes to Orofino the following Friday. |
