Lady Maniacs end their basketball season by Mike Butler The Orofino High School Lady Maniacs basketball team ended their season today losing to Firth High School in their second game at the State 2A Basketball Tournament held in Middleton. Firth had the height and the experience of the state playoffs in their favor since this was only the second game that Orofino girl's had played at state. The Lady Cougars from Firth came out with a very strong defense that the Lady Maniacs had a lot of trouble getting around. The Lady Cougars also had height, so they controlled the boards and Orofino could only get frustrated by that. Ellen Rouse injured during a rebound in the first quarter of the game came back to play after the second quarter had started. She was hurting and had a limp to her walk as did Capri Savage who came up limping during the game. The real highlight of the game was at the end of the second quarter for Orofino's team. The Lady Maniacs had a run on the basket to come within 6 points at halftime with the score 20 to 26 Firth leading. Whatever they did right in the second quarter, they left in the second quarter. The Lady Maniacs went stone cold in the third period only scoring three baskets. Firth continued to score through the third and the fourth quarters. Even though Orofino's Lady Maniacs played hard and gave a good showing in the fourth, the lead by Firth High School was to large for them to overcome. Capri Savage was the top scorer of the game with 17 points. Jessica Roby had 9. Final score was Firth 59 Orofino 38. Orofino can be very proud of their team. They represented the high school and community well this year. |
