Lady Maniacs end 16/7 season

Orofino Lady Maniacs ended their 16 win/7 loss basketball season Saturday in a tough loss to the Potlatch Loggers 47-39.

Coach Alana Curtis' players started the game doing very well, but five turnovers kept the Lady Loggers close in the first quarter with an ending score of nine to eight Lady Maniacs. The second quarter started out with the Lady Maniacs scoring five points, but then the Potlatch girls took over with 12 unanswered points leading at half 20-14. Chad Easterbrook, OHS assistant coach stated "that really hurt the team".

Potlatch played with a man to man press most of the game which proved to be too much for the Lady Maniacs. Potlatch pulled away from Orofino as much as 11 points in the third quarter, but the Lady Maniacs came back within 6 points by the end of the third period with a score of 32 to 26.

The fourth quarter was hard fought and the Loggers kept the Maniacs in the game with foul trouble on their part. Capri Savage hit 11 of 12 free throws on the night. At a minute and 30 seconds, the Loggers quit the press as most of their players were in foul trouble. With the free throws, the Lady Maniacs pulled within three points.

Easterbrook also stated, "The girls tried really hard to come back. Kelsey Olson and Savannah Crawford were really playing their hearts out." Then Olson fouled out of the game and the Lady Maniacs could no longer find the hoop and went on to lose a heart breaker.

Next year should be a very good year with most of the players returning, said Easterbrook.
