Maniacs win tournament championship

After taking a major bruising from the Kamiah Kubs earlier this season, the Orofino High School Maniacs boy's baseball team got their revenge as they beat the Kamiah Kubs in the championship game this weekend at the baseball tournament held in Orofino.

With three hits and three runs Kamiah started off leading the game in the top of the first inning. Lucas Rouse was the only Maniac runner to score in the first inning on an unearned run home.

Kamiah then added another run in the top of the second inning with two hits. To the delight of the fans, the Maniacs came to bat and loaded the bases. DJ Wright earned a walk and Aaron Downing and Lucas Rouse were both hit by pitches. Then Sean Diffen came to the plate. Diffen had not produced during the two games that were played on Saturday until this point. He became really popular amongst the fans as he hit a grand slam home run. That tied Kamiah with a score of four to four. That was the only hit of the inning for the Maniacs.

In the third inning Kamiah had two hits and answered the Maniacs with one run to lead the game again. Great pitching from both pitchers allowed no runs or hits in the fourth inning.

In the top of the fifth, Kamiah had one hit and no runs. Diffen and Rob Davis walked in the bottom of the fifth inning. Wes Presnell got a hit and allowed Sean to come home. Wright got another hit to allow Davis to come home. Presnell and Davis came in for Orofino for another two runs making a total of four runs in the inning off of four hits. The score was then Orofino nine Kamiah five.

Jarrod Mangum came to the mound in the top of the sixth inning not allowing Kamiah any runs or hits that inning. Kamiah returned the same favor with a new pitcher and the Maniacs were not allowed any runs or hits.

In the top of the seventh inning, the Kamiah Kubs knew that this was a do or die time. However, the Maniacs only allowed one hit and one run for the go ahead win for the Orofino High School boys. Final score was Orofino nine Kamiah six.

Next game for the Orofino High School boy's baseball team will be on April 5 at Grangeville.
