OHS students holds successful blood drive

Each year the Orofino High School Government class, taught by Cindy Wilson, gets hands-on experience in the importance of community service.

Her class is assigned to get into groups and sponsor some type of community service project. Loretta Zagelow, Jessica Roby and Tawnya Brink chose a blood drive to help support hospital patients who need blood. Other classmates helped the day of the drive. The goal was set for 40 pints of blood. Because of the excellent organization, great student support and efficient collections staff, the project yielded 52 units. That is 130 percent of the goal.

According to Karen Parvin, donor recipient representative of the American Red Cross, that is unheard of at high school blood drives because of all the first timers. In Orofino, there were 38 first timers, many teachers and some community support. Parvin also said that Orofino should be very proud of their youth. American Red Cross is proud to be serving the community.
