OCI working on Lumberjack Days
Orofino Celebrations, Inc. (OCI) members are making preparations for Orofino Lumberjack Days scheduled Sept. 15, 16, 17 & 18 with the theme "Hooked on Clearwater County."
They met Wednesday evening to discuss what needs to be done.
With the need to repair and possibly replace some of the bleachers in the Logging Arena, OCI members will be meeting with other groups that use the facility such as Clearwater County Fair Board, 4-H, City of Orofino and the horse club to discuss funding that might be available for the project. The wooden bleachers require nearly yearly maintenance and OCI is looking for more permanent options.
Several people have submitted bids and examples of their work so OCI can choose the type of trophies they will have this year. The submissions were primarily wood or metal art.
Lori Jo McClean asked for input on having a limited number of watches with lumberjacks on them available for sale this year along with the usual shirts and other memorabilia. She said the charms sold well last year and there will be a new design this year for those.
OCI Royalty recently participated in the Kendrick parade and they are planning for Grangeville Border Days in July. Pictures have been taken for their posters, but the posters are still in production.
Someone is needed to take care of the electrical systems for the lumberjack show. Gary Wessels will talk with Lee Woolsey and see if he might be able to help.
Lori Wright, Fair Board representative, said that the exhibit and livestock barns are being refurbished and in the next few years will be repainted "sandstone", a beige or taupe color.
