Searchers find lost hunter Searchers were successful Wednesday in finding a Wisconsin man who had become lost Tuesday while hunting in the Osier Lookout area near the Montana border, according to a Clearwater County Sheriff's Department (CCSO) release. At 8:48 p.m. on Tuesday Clearwater County dispatch received a call that 45-year-old Greg Harer of Deer Park, WI had not returned from hunting. Family members said that he had planned to return by noon to their camp in the Osier Lookout area. Clearwater County deputies and Search and Rescue members, along with a search dog, responded immediately to the area. Responders included ATV teams, a horse team, a ground team, and an Idaho Correctional Institution-Orofino inmate team, according to CCSO. In addition, an Air Force rescue helicopter from Fairchild Air Force Base near Spokane, WA and Orofino's Back Country Medics helicopter responded Wednesday. Back Country Medics located Harer at 1:35 p.m. on Wednesday approximately four miles from where he was last seen. He was transported by helicopter to be reunited with his family at the base camp. Harer reportedly had no injuries and no problems while spending the night in the woods. He said that he had discovered too late in the day that he had taken a wrong turn. He said that he built a fire and decided to walk out the next morning, the release said. |
