Former Chief Deputy accidentally shot

Former Clearwater County Sheriff's Chief Deputy Joe McCarthy was accidentally shot in the face and chest area while hunting with his son Saturday in the Little Canyon area, according to the department.

McCarthy was treated by Clearwater County Ambulance Service before being transported to St. Joseph Regional Medical Center by MedStar helicopter. He has since been released but will need further treatment, CCSO said.

McCarthy now works with the Boise Police Department.
