Dennis Patrick McCarthy, 59, formerly of Orofino

Dennis Patrick McCarthy, 59, died peacefully at his home in Gearhart, OR Thursday, Jan. 12, 2006.

He was born May 8, 1946, in Spokane, WA to Joe and Helen McCarthy of Orofino. He lived and grew up in Orofino until his family sold their business and moved to Boise where he graduated from St. Theresa's High School in 1964. While living in Orofino, he was a member of Little Flower Catholic Church.

During high school, his main interests were cars, a rock band he and friends started called "The Mystiques" and athletics. The band sometimes played with Paul Revere and the Raiders. Though he has not been a part of it for many years, "The Mystiques" is still performing in the Boise area.

Following graduation, he attended what was then Boise Junior College for a short time, but mostly, he went to the "school of life", according to his brother Mike McCarthy of Orofino. He did about everything there was to do and was very successful in one of the most important things in this life a genuine caring for other people. He was well liked by a wide variety of people and he often showed his generous spirit in helping others.

Denny traveled all over the world and even spent time living in a cave off Malta. He loved to go riding motorcycles and often went cross country from Oregon to New York and Florida. He owned and ran a number of successful businesses. He and his wife owned a motorcycle shop in Seaside, OR before his death.

Denny will be missed by family and friends who survive him including his wife, Susan, in Gearhart; their children and grandchildren; his brother and sister-in-law, Mike and Lynn McCarthy of Orofino; and nieces, nephews and their families.

A wake will be held Sunday at the Legion Hall in Seaside, OR. By his request, he will be cremated and his ashes be brought home to Orofino to be scattered over Dworshak Reservoir where his mother had a homestead before the lake was filled.
