Native American dance & song planned at Lolo Pass

Powell, MT--Lolo Pass Visitor Center invites everyone to a demonstration of Native American dance and song on Thursday, Aug. 11 from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Pacific Time.

Join Tatonkaska Howard, drummer and singer from the Gros Ventre-Assineboine Tribe of Fort Belknap, Shonto Pete, Navajo/Salish singer and dancer, and Caroline Talks Different, a dancer from the Bitterroot Salish of the Flathead Reservation, for this unique opportunity to see traditional dance outfits and dances. Visitors can even join the presenters for a round dance at the end of the demonstration.

The Lewis and Clark expedition made contact with many different tribes as they traveled across the country. While each tribe had different customs and cultures, they all shared the importance of dancing, singing and drumming. Much of this beautiful tradition of song and dance is exhibited at powwows, and will be demonstrated at Lolo Pass Visitor Center on Aug. 11. Join the festivities.

Lolo Pass Visitor Center is open seven days a week from 8 a.m.-5:30 p.m. Pacific Time, and is located on U.S. Highway 12 along the Montana/Idaho border, 40 miles southwest of Missoula, MT. For more information, call 208-942-1234.
