Time to get ready for college
Spring is here and it is that time of the year to get ready for college.
The Lewis-Clark State College Orofino Outreach Center is open to advise anyone interested in going to college. It is time to begin applying for admission now for the next school year, which begins August 28. The outreach center helps people determine what they want to go to study, how to pay for it, what steps they need to take and all of the big and little questions that come with going to college.
Another opportunity in Orofino is JET (Job Education Training). This program has been in Orofino for a few years now and is a way for people to get the education and training they need to get a job. Some of the students have been able to qualify as a CNA (Certified Nurses Assistant) or obtain truck-driving skills or office skills. The training is free since costs associated with the training are paid by JET.
JET is a program for low income parents with minor children. There is no cost to eligible participants who are Idaho residents, have a social security number and meet the income guidelines. Caretaker relatives of a minor child living in the home, pregnant women and non-custodial parents who live in Idaho and have an obligation to support a minor child all qualify.
JET offers courses in basic computer skills (Word, Excel, Internet, E-Mail, for example) health occupation skills (to help prepare for the CNA, for instance), bookkeeping with an emphasis on 10-key.
Need a job but do not have the skills or certificate? Need to switch careers but do not have the knowledge to do so? Find out what the JET program can do to help right here in Orofino by contacting the LCSC Orofino Outreach Center at 476-5731. |
