Kiwanis hosts first annual Lumberjack run

Kiwanis Club of Orofino hosted their first annual Lumberjack Fun Run Saturday with 91 runners participating.

The course started at the Orofino City Park and went up College Ave. and Vida for a mile before turning onto Michigan Ave. The route then turned around at the former site of the Jehovah Witness Church. The course was a 5K (3.1 miles) distance.

Heather Sawyer, Kiwanis president and event chairman said, "We are so excited with the community's support of this event. We anticipated 50 fun runners our first year but were pleasantly surprised with the 91 that came out. We look forward to next year and even more participants. The event is planned annually the Saturday before the Clearwater County Fair".

Winners for the fun run were as follows:

  • Overall Female and with the best time of the day was Jennifer Vogel, 20:56 and Male Overall winner Kim Waterhouse came in at 22:38. These two winners received $25 worth of Orofino gold.
  • Winners under the age of 18 received a coupon for a wrist band to the carnival this week. The winners in the age categories over 18 received $10 in Orofino gold.
  • Winners for age group 0 - 12: Female, Kaleigh Knight, 34:28, Male, Kevin Knight, 25:14 and James Bolling, 26:26.
  • Age 13 - 17, Female, Cherish Tachell, 26:02 (there were no male entries in this category).
  • Age 18 - 29 Female, Lindsey Breeze, 32:21 and Male, Tyson Cobbs, 41:05.
  • Age 30 - 39, Female, Molly Allen, 22:29 and Carrie Bretz, 28:31 (there were no male entries in this category).
  • Age 40 - 49, Female, Susan White, 37:37, Male, Tam White, 25:15.
  • Age 50 and up, Female, Marge Kuchynka, 26:56 and Male, Paul Smith, 26:33

Kiwanis Club of Orofino expressed appreciation to the generous businesses in the community for helping this event happen including: Glenwood Pharmacy, Glenwood IGA, Barney's Harvest Foods, Clearwater Valley Hospital; and the Retreat to Weippe Committee for use of the timer.
