Kiwanis receive awards

The Kiwanis Club of Orofino met on Tuesday March 22 at the Ponderosa Restaurant.

President Guy Jurgens presided over the meeting. There were no birthdays or anniversaries. Phyllis Squire was the winner of the free lunch.

Dolly and Joe Watkins sent more can tabs for the Ronald McDonald House.

Committee Reports:

  • Division 56 Division Council Meeting will be held April 9 at noon at Rowdy's in Lewiston. Our club will not be represented as that is the same day as our Kid's Fair.
  • Zone Conference will be on April 23 in Spokane.
  • Monica Jones reported that the raffle tickets for the new track field are ready to be sold.

This meeting was set aside to honor the Kiwanis members for their diligent service to the club as well as the community.

  • First Award went Julia Pullen. Julia received the Human and Spiritual Value Award.
  • The second award that was given was the perfect attendance award. Those individuals receiving this award have had perfect attendance for two years. Lyn Anderson, Guy Jergens, and Lee Squire were the recipients of this award.

  • Distinguish Service Awards were next given to Bernice Pullen, Dr. Dennis Harper, Jack Crites, and Lyn Anderson.
  • The Kiwanian of the Year Award was given to President Guy Jurgens.

  • The final award was given to Steve Clack. Steve received the Distinguished Devoted Award. Steve has served as treasurer of the club for many years.

Under announcements, Harper spoke of his open house this week and that tiles for the swimming pool are on sale at his office.

Lisa announced that Wednesday from 3 p.m.-5 p.m. at the Senior Center, Brookside Landing and Clearwater Health and Rehab is sponsoring a speaker from Gritman Hospital that will speak on Dementia.

Work party to put the shelving in the storage unit has been scheduled for the morning of April 2. More information is to come.

Lyn reported that the K-Kids made shamrocks last Thursday at their weekly meeting. Those shamrocks were then taken to the local businesses as a thank you for their support. Those receiving the shamrocks were delighted according to Lyn.

Next meeting will be the monthly business meeting.
