Kiwanis meet Tuesday

The Kiwanis Club of Orofino met at the Ponderosa on Tuesday, March 15.
President Guy Jurgens presided. There were no anniversaries but Phyllis Squire and Lisa's grandchild Casey had birthdays. President Jurgens won the free lunch. Ruth and Bill Bird as well as the National Forest Service donated tabs this week.
Committee Reports:
- Lyn Anderson reported that the semi annual dues are now due. March 15 is the deadline. Lyn stated that those who have not paid will be contacted as Lee Squire must send the report in the end of the month with the money.
- Lyn commented that the committee for the circus is now forming. They want to have a full week of activities for the circus. She also commented about the importance of pre-sales. A sign up sheet was sent around for volunteers.
- Doug Crockett reported that the materials are ready to build the movable storage shelves for the Kiwanis Storage Unit. The group decided to meet at Dennis's place Thursday night at 6 p.m.
- Dennis Harper reported on the Community Complex. Dennis said that $2 million in grants were mailed on Tuesday. He said that Debco will be moving dirt onto the site within the next couple of weeks.
- Dennis reported that he is having a "Patient Appreciation Week" next week. One day of services on Thursday will be donated to the Community Complex. Tiles will be on sale all week for those that want to a have a tile with their name printed on it.
- Monica Jones reported on the first meeting of the track committee. They are trying to raise $30,000.00 to resurface the Orofino High School Track. Monica reported that they are going to have a raffle for the first fundraiser. Tickets are $20 a piece. Winners will have a choice of trips to either Las Vegas or Seattle. - Jeff Jones reported on the Junior Miss program. Jeff stated that they had seven ladies that participated and they all did an excellent job. $2200 in scholarships were awarded this year. Jeff also reported that he was the recipient of the Idaho Junior Miss Volunteer of the Year award for 2005.
Jeanette Gorman was the speaker for this meeting. Jeanette is in the public relations department for Clearwater Valley Hospital and Clinic in Orofino and St Mary's Hospital in Cottonwood. Jeanette reported the importance of getting health information off the Internet.
She stated that there are a lot of sites that misinform people. Medline Plus is the program that she was promoting at the meeting.
Next meeting Kiwanis Awards will be given out.
