Kiwanis meet Feb. 22
by Mike Butler The monthly business meeting for the Kiwanis Club of Orofino was conducted at noon on Tuesday, Feb. 22.
President Guy Jurgens conducted the meeting. Jack Crites was the door greeter and Dianne Cochran was the secret greeter. She reported that everyone said hello.
Minutes of the monthly board meeting were read. They included the following:
- Our club is sponsoring four boys in the Strikers Wrestling Club. In return the boys are going to help out at the annual Kids Fair that is coming up in April.
- Approval was given to use $264.00 dollars for the purchase of Kid Care Starter Kits that are used for children's identification books in case a child becomes missing or kidnapped. Lee Squire reported that the cost has gone up 50 percent since last year.
- The board approved payment to its own foundation each year for administrative costs.
- The rose garden that is in development stages was discussed. The measure was tabled so that more information could be gathered.
- A letter of appreciation was received from North Idaho College for the scholarship that was received for one of their students.
- The treasurer's report was adopted.
- Authorization was given for the building of shelves with wheels for our storage unit. Completion will be within the next couple of weeks.
- Handicap ramps for personal home use were discussed. The motion to approve building them was denied since there are private individuals in the community that already do this and are paid by Medicaid.
Monica Jones reported during the business meeting that the Clearwater Quilters has donated $200 to next year's Christmas Express program.
Dennis Harper reported on the Snake River Basin Adjudication plan and the committee meetings being held in Boise with the legislators. He also announced the community complex meeting to be held that night in the basement of the Helgeson Building.
There was discussion about a donation to the high school for the purpose of helping purchase a defibrillator. There was a lot of interest at the meeting and it will be discussed amongst the board of directors and a decision made.
