Horizons initiative available to communities In an effort to help rural communities create environments where everyone has the opportunity to thrive, University of Idaho Extension, in partnership with the Minnesota-based Northwest Area Foundation, has embarked on the Horizons initiative. Through Horizons, northern Idaho communities may be eligible to participate in the two-year leadership development program, designed to reduce poverty in rural areas. Idaho's project will involve communities in the state's northern 12 counties with between 100 and 5,000 residents and a poverty rate of 10 percent or greater. The first milestone requires that five people from an interested community attend one of three Showcase events, which will be held in Riggins on Sept. 27, Moscow on Sept. 30 and Worley on Oct. 3. Reservation deadline for the Showcases is Sept. 15. For more information, please contact Kathee Tifft, University of Idaho Extension in Nez Perce County, at (208) 799-3096 or email: ktifft@uidaho.edu. |
