Invitation to a training fire Preparing and putting on gear is a very important part of safely fighting a fire. Other fire fighters help to mak sure all the equipment is connected correctly. Checking out the situation before opening the door and staying low to the ground are all a part. Practice, when conditions, are more controlled is the time to learn the best methods for figting fire and being safe. Some fire fighters need to assist with hoses on the outside of the structure. The first house is fully involved in flames for the practice. A fire fighter practices working with a hose on the second house as it burns. These two houses behind Hanson Garage were burned Saturday as part of practice drills for three local fire departments: Orofino Fire Department, Sunnyside Rural Fire Department and the new Upper Fords Creek Rural Fire Department. Practice drills were done from 8-10 a.m. and then the houses were burned for further practice. Hansons plans to level the ground and expand their parking area. (Photos Don Gardner and Mike Butler) |
