Heinrich retires after 24 years of teaching

by Anna Brotnov, Clearwater's Promise

Sandy Heinrich is retiring from her job as a teacher at Timberline Junior High School after being a teacher for about 24 years.

Heinrich taught for four years in Washington when she first started in the profession and then moved to Idaho to teach in Joint School District #171 for 20 years. Since coming to Idaho she has worked both at Pierce Elementary and Timberline.

Though she taught mostly science, Heinrich has also instructed classes in home economics, English, government, United States history, economics, journalism and speech. She spent five years teaching at th elementary level. Of all the classes she taught Heinrich enjoyed science and government most. She said she helped with almost every extracurricular activity. The most recent have been drama, school newspapers, elementary and junior high annuals, class advisor and running the score book and clock during basketball games for 15 years.

Heinrich said that she did not like having to go back to summer school all the time when she was a teacher. She liked the students, though, and will miss getting to know them and work with them. She will also miss some of the people she worked alongside.

Now that she has free time, Heinrich says that she and her husband will be building a new house and probably travel to Canada. She is also going to do a couple part time jobs and is looking forward to using her new metal detector.

Heinrich says that she would like to hear from her former students. She is regularly contacted by students she had 10-15 years ago and enjoys those visits.
