Head Start now taking applications for fall

Head Start pre-school, Lewis-Clark Early Childhood Program, at 2230 Michigan Ave., in Orofino, is now taking applications for fall enrollment from parents interested in the program.

They accept children who turn three by Sept. 1. Four-year olds do have priority, so some three-year olds will remain on the waiting list until there is an opening. They have a capacity of 14 students in the morning class and 14 in the afternoon class. Head Start is a free pre-school program for families that qualify financially.

Those interested, may call Nancy Johnstun at 476-3481 to set up a time to complete the application. These are the items that people need to bring with them at the time of application

  • Birth Certificate-a hospital record will do temporarily, but a certified copy of the official birth certificate, from the state in which child was born, is required before they actually enter school in the fall.
  • Immunization record
  • Social Security numbers for all adults in the household, as well as the enrolling child
  • Medical insurance or Medicaid number
  • Proof of income for the past twelve months
  • Phone numbers: work, emergency, message etc.
  • Dates of most recent well-child physical exam as well as dental check-up
