Greer residents form Neighborhood Watch group Concerns about speeding motorists, vandalism and children shooting birds with beebee guns, recently prompted Larry Hollibaugh to organize a Neighborhood Watch group for the town of Greer. Nick Albers, former Clearwater County Sheriff, is mentoring the group in establishing a framework to make their hometown more secure and comfortable. Becky Drewery, Clearwater County Sheriffs Department, is also assisting the group. About 25 people are involved with the effort, according to Hollibaugh. Motorists are driving through Greer at 55-60 miles per hour, according to Hollibaugh. Due to the problems with speeding, Idaho State Police set up their radar detector speed unit in the town this week. The hope is that it will help people recognize a need to slow down. Eventually, Hollibaugh would like to have crosswalks for added safety. The Neighborhood Watch group will be meeting with Idaho Department of Transportation to see if they can make that change. Another of Hollibaugh's concerns is people who park and leave their vehicles at the small rest area just across the bridge toward town. He is working with Idaho Department of Fish and Game who owns the property to remedy the situation. He said the rest area has handicapped curbs, but the restrooms are not handicap accessible. He is hoping that will change too. Photo: Larry Hollibaugh, Neighborhood Watch organizer, (left) and Lt. Allen Oswald, Idaho State Police.
