Government students receive boost in fund raising Orofino High School's "We the People" Mock Congressional Hearing team is well on its way to raising the funds necessary for them to compete nationally in Washington, D.C. April 27 through May 2, but still needs a little less than $1,000, according to their coach, Cindy Wilson. "It's great, it's awesome," she said of news the team received last week about grant funds they have been awarded. A $7,500 grant through the Idaho Character Education Project will help with a major portion of the costs for the competition. The Idaho State Department of Education also made a $3,000 down payment. That means the trip to national competition is paid. The $1,000 is needed primarily to pay for lodging and a meal in Spokane before the students fly to Washington, D.C., Wilson said. About $120 has also been donated locally already and the students will also be working at the upcoming Republican Lincoln Day activities to raise money. The students won the Idaho State competition in Boise earlier this month are working hard to prepare academically for the nationals. Those who would like to contribute may send donations to: Orofino High School, 300 Dunlap, Orofino, ID 83544 with the group name noted on them. |
