Polls open at 8 a.m. Tuesday for General Election

Polls around Clearwater County will be open Tuesday, Nov. 4, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. for voters to cast their ballots to choose county, state and national representatives.

Polling places include: Precinct #1-ManiYAC Teen Center, Precinct #2-Veterans of Foreign Wars Building, Precinct #3-Clearwater County Coon Building, Precints #4 & 5-National Guard Armory, Precinct #6-Fraser Community Center, Precinct #8-Cavendish Church, Precinct #9-Weippe City Hall, Precinct #11 (Ahsahka)-Clearwater Fish Hatchery, Precinct #12-Pierce Community Center and Precinct #13-Elk River City Hall. Precinct #7 in the Greer area, Precinct # 10 in the Headquarters area and Precinct #14 in the Grangemont area have been designated as "Vote by Mail" precincts.

There is only one contested race for Clearwater County offices. That is between incumbent Don Ebert (Democrat) and Joy Hall (Republican) for the District 1 position as commissioner. All other candidates for county offices are running unopposed. They include: Clerk/Auditor/Recorder-Carrie Bird (Democrat); Sheriff-Chris Goetz (Republican); District 2 Commissioner-Stan Leach; and County Prosecuting Attorney-Clayne Tyler (Republican);

In District 8 races for the Idaho Legislature, incumbent Lee Heinrich (Republican) is being challenged by Randy Doman (Democrat) for the Senate seat, incumbent Ken Roberts (Republican) is being opposed by Richard L. Adams (Democrat) for Representative Position A and incumbent Paul Shepherd (Republican) is being opposed by Jim Rehder (Democrat) for Representative Position B.

Five men are vying for the seat in the U.S. Senate being vacated by Larry Craig who is not running for re-election. The candidates are: Larry LaRocco (Democrat), Jim Risch (Republican), Kent A. Marmon (Libertarian) and Independents Pro-Life (formerly known as Marvin Richardson) and Rex Rammell.

There are five choices for president and vice president of the United States: John McCain and Sarah Palin (Republican), Barack Obama and Joe Biden (Democrat), Chuck Baldwin and Darrell Castle (Constitution), Bob Barr and Wayne A. Root (Libertarian) and Ralph Nader and Matt Gonzalez (Independent).
