C-PTPA responds to blaze near Elk River

Clearwater-Potlatch Timber Protective Association (C-PTPA) crews responded to a 20-acre fire in slash on Jericho Mountain after it was reported this afternoon by Elk River Road crews, according to John Allen.

The cause of the fire, about 6 miles south of Elk River, is unknown at this point. There are 20 personnel on the fire, along with 5 dozers, 3 engines and a couple of water tenders. Two helicopters, one from Hillcrest Aircraft Company in Orofino and one from Idaho Department of Lands-Craigmont, did water drops and two single-engine air tankers (SEAT) plans dropped retardant. Allen said they expect a 30-man inmate crew from the Idaho Correctional Institution-Orofino tomorrow in addition to their personnel.

Allen said no structures are threatened, but part of a log deck burned.

Fire conditions remain in the "Extreme" range and residents and visitors are asked to use extreme caution with any open flame or ignition source.
