Cindy Lane moves to Clearwater Forest staff position

After 12 years as District Ranger for the Lochsa Ranger District, Cindy Lane has agreed to accept the new Vegetation Restoration Staff Officer position for the Clearwater National Forest.

The change will be effective Jan. 8, 2007. Lane's forestry education and knowledge of vegetation management will offer the forest the needed sound advice in timber management and a variety of other program areas. She will also continue to provide program oversight for the Wild and Scenic Rivers Program across the Forest, including scenic easements.

Clearwater Forest Supervisor Tom Reilly said, "Our forest identified a need for additional focus and leadership in our efforts to restore and manage the dynamic forested landscapes of the Clearwater. Cindy has demonstrated her expertise in this area, and we need her energy and skills at the larger forest-wide scale."

He added, "The Forest Leadership Team is very excited about having her in this new position. Revision of the Forest Plan, as well as discussions with the Nez Perce Tribe and other stakeholders has convinced me we need to develop a new vision for our vegetation management programs, particularly as it affects wildlife habitats. Cindy has the background, skills and energy to help develop and implement this new vision."

Regarding her new position, Lane said, "I have been a District Ranger for 18 years on 3 forests and I have enjoyed my connection to the land and people. We, the district and communities, have collectively done numerous great things and we all have a right to be proud. Stepping into a Supervisor's Office staff position will be a new challenge. I intend to make it a valuable one."

Lane has been with the Forest Service for 27 years, all in Idaho and Montana. She has five children, two grown and moved on and three still in school. Her husband Bo also works for the Forest Service.
