Chinook Salmon season to open April 23
Chinook Salmon season on the main stem and North Fork of the Clearwater River will begin April 23 as approved by the Idaho Fish and Game Commission in a meeting Wednesday in Boise.
The season will run until July 31. Limits are one daily, three in possession and 10 for the season on both parts of the river. Season dates and possession limits are the same for the South Fork of the Clearwater.
About 75,000 hatchery Spring and Summer Chinook Salmon adults are expected over Lower Granite Dam. That number is comparable to the 2002 season.
Salmon fishing on the Upper Snake River will open April 23 and run until July 31 with limits of two daily, six in possession and 20 for the season. On the Lower Snake, the season will run from April 23 through May 30 with limits of one per day, three in possession and 10 for the season.
April 23 is also the opening date on the Lower and Little Salmon River. On the Lower Salmon the season closes June 19 with limits of two daily, six in possession and 20 for the season. Limits are the same on the Little Salmon but the season will run until July 31. Fishing on the Lochsa will open May 28 and close July 31 with limits of one per day, three in possession and 10 for the season.
There is also a possibility of a season on the Upper Salmon River where there has not been one of 30 years. The decision will be made later in the season depending on fish numbers.
