Maniac sculpture project shows community pride
Orofino's Maniac is a unique mascot and there is a project underway to show the community's pride in the symbol with a monument size sculpture of the Maniac.
This is an artist's concept of what the Maniac sculpture would look like.
The plan is to commission John Gilliam to sculpt the Maniac and have a bronze of cast. It would have a wall behind it to help it stand out better and be lighted at night. To help with the costs, community members can buy plaques to go on the wall or the ground around the sculpture.
Gilliam is the sculptor of the logger statue at Proud Heritage Plaza near the bridge and the statue that stands in front of the Veteran's Home in Lewiston.
The idea of the sculpture is to show support for the kids and the community's pride in the mascot. Seeing the Maniac across the bridge would help attract people downtown to see what it is all about.
To this point, the group has met with the city and asked for their help in contacting Idaho Transportation Department who would need to approve the place the group would like to put the Maniac.
