Basic computer classes offered in February

The Adult Learning Center is offering a variety of beginning computer classes during the month of February.

"Computer Comfort" is a class for the beginning user. It requires no previous experience with computers. It answers the question: How do you turn this thing on? Learn the basics: how to use a mouse, scroll, select, open, close, shut down. This is a one session class and lasts 1 1/2 hours. It will be held Monday, Feb. 6, from 1-2-:30 p.m. Joe Davis will be the instructor.

"Word Processing" is for people familiar with the contents of the "Computer Comfort" class. Learn to use the computer to type a letter or an essay. Microsoft Word will be used to teach how to start, write, erase, correct errors, move text, change fonts, and much more. This is a two-session class with each session lasting 1 1/2 hours. Sessions will be Wednesdays, Feb. 8 and 15, from 1-2:30 p.m. Sandra Goffinet will be the instructor.

In "Computer Comfort Part IV: File Management", participants will learn about the computer filing system and how to set up their own files. This course teaches how to create, delete, move, and copy folders and files. It also covers how to backup files. This is a one session class that lasts three hours. It is scheduled for Wednesday, Feb 22, from 1-4 p.m. Doug Crockett will be the instructor.

"Internet & Email Use" participants will learn to open a web page, do a search, compose e-mail and send a greeting card. This is a two session class with each session lasting 1 1/2 hours. It will be held Mondays, Feb. 27 and March 6, from 1-2:30 p.m. Joe Douglas will be the instructor.

Please, pre-register for classes so materials can be prepared. Either stop by the center or call 476-4478. A $5 donation is requested for each class.

The Adult Learning Center is located in the annex behind Clearwater Memorial Public Library, 402 Michigan Ave. The center also provides free, confidential, one-on-one tutoring for adults in the basic skills of reading, writing, math, English as a second language and GED preparation.
