Air Quality Stagnation Advisory in effect

Although air quality conditions have improved slightly, dispersion characteristics are forecasted to remain poor through the evening hours, according to the Nez Perce Tribe Air Quality Project.

Therefore, the air stagnation advisory issued at 9:00am, Friday, Sept. 8 will remain in effect until 9 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 9. Camping and recreational fires are allowable. However, due to the possibility of wildfire smoke returning to the area, no EPA/NPT air quality burn permits or small residential burning will be approved for the remainder of the day or weekend.

With the quick passing of a weather system late Friday night and Saturday morning, wildfire smoke will continue to clear out of the area. Air quality is currently in the "moderate" range but may return to the "Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups" category by Sunday afternoon. "Moderate" air quality means that sensitive people should consider limiting prolonged outdoor exertion. Sensitive groups include children, the elderly, those with existing health conditions, and people who have high exposure (those who work, exercise, or spend extensive time out of doors).

Air quality conditions will be monitored throughout the weekend. The burn ban and air quality advisory may be reinstated if conditions degrade.
