Orofino, Kamiah, Nezperce in 'Hazardous' air quality category Orofino, Kamiah and Nezperce areas are now in the 'Hazardous' air quality category according to an update issued at 2 p.m. Friday by the Nez Perce Tribe Air Quality Program (NPAQP). Most of the rest of Nez Perce Reservation remains in the 'Unhealthy' category. NPAQP advises that everyone should avoid any outdoor exertion and sensitive groups should remain indoors. Although air quality conditions are expected to improve by Saturday afternoon, wildfire smoke may continue to move in and out of the area during the day and overnight. Smoke may settle into valleys. Some areas may be more impacted than others, so please take appropriate precautions. No burn permits will be issued and camping recreational fires are also prohibited. This action does not apply to fires set for cultural or traditional purposes. These restrictions are in effect through 9 a.m. Monday, Sept. 17. Conditions will be reassessed at that time. |
