Driver falls asleep, crashes car

Brandon McMillen, 18, Weippe, was on the way to work early Thursday morning when he fell asleep and his vehicle crossed the opposite lanes of traffic and ended up in the barrow pit near mile post 41 on U.S. Highway 12 in Orofino, according to Orofino Police Chief Ron Pomerinke.

Besides the barrow pit, the car hit a tree and slid around to one side. The air bags in the car did deploy. McMillen was taken to Clearwater Valley Hospital by Clearwater Amublance Service.

Orofino Fire Rescue 3 and Clearwater County Sheriffs Department also assisted at the scene, Pomerinke said.
