Kamiah man dies in accident

A 61-year-old Kamiah man died in a one-vehicle accident Thursday night near mile marker 55 on U.S. Highway 12, according to Idaho State Police.

David L. Kludt was traveling eastbound on the highway when the 2002 Chevrolet pickup he was driving went off the right side. It hit a rock embankment, then went back across the lane of travel and off the left hand side of the roadway into the river. The vehicle came to rest half submerged on the passenger side in the water, the ISP report said.

There were no passengers in the vehicle and Kludt was not wearing a seat belt, according to ISP.

In addition to ISP, Lewis and Clearwater County Sheriff's departments, Orofino Fire Rescue 3, Kamiah Ambulance, Nez Perce Tribe Police and Jackson's Towing assisted at the scene.

Investigation of the accident is continuing, ISP said.
