Emma Hazel (Moyer) May, 89, formerly of Orofino

Emma Hazel (Moyer) May, 89, formerly of Orofino, Pierce and Headquarters, passed away Friday, Feb. 18, 2005 in Spokane Valley, WA where she had lived since 2002.

She was born Dec. 8, 1915, at Sweet Valley, PA as a twin to parents Ralph and Eulalia Moyer.

In 1937, she graduated from Wilkes-Barre General Hospital as a registered nurse. She married Lawrence E. May on August 4, 1938 and in 1942, they moved to Orofino, then later Headquarters. There Emma became an emergency nurse for Potlatch Corporation (PFI). In 1948, they moved to Jaype (Pierce) and she volunteered as a community nurse.

Emma and Lawrence moved to Lewiston in 1996. He passed away in February 2001 and Emma moved to Spokane Valley in 2002 to be closer to her son.

She is survived by two sons, Larry May and his wife Carol, Post Falls; and Paul May and his wife, Jeanie, in Greenacres, WA, plus four grandchildren: Brian May, Jaime May, Karie Ference and Carson May. Also surviving are Emma's brother-in-law George May and his four daughters, Linda Roach, Barbara Tuttle, Joyce Cameron and Peggy Slotvig, all currently Spokane area residents. She also is survived by two sisters-in law, nephews and nieces in Pennsylvania and New Mexico.

A memorial celebrating Emma's life will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 26 at the Lewiston First Church of the Nazarene, 1700 8th St., under the direction of Pine Hills Funeral Chapel, Orofino. A lunch social will be held after the memorial in the church fellowship hall for all attending.
