4-H is more than cooking, sewing, livestock by Bobbi Flowers Although many people view 4-H as cooking, sewing and livestock projects, this is only the tip of the iceberg of what 4-H truly has to offer youth from the ages of 6 to 19. 4-H can be an experience with life long benefits. 4-H offers the opportunity for youth to build confidence, to be caring and compassionate members of their community. It helps them to learn to be competent in leadership roles. Youth are connected to caring adults who volunteer their time to help members grow. The traditional projects of cooking, sewing and livestock are still strongly promoted. However, 4-H offers projects in bicycle, drama and theater, photography, child development, consumer education, leadership, sport fishing, shooting sports, financial management, aerospace, electricity and many more. Annual enrollment is underway. The deadline is April 1. Anyone wishing to inquire or sign up should contact the Clearwater County Extension Office at 2200 Michigan Ave. or call 476-4434. |
