National Weather Service issues Winter Weather Advisory

National Weather Service-Missoula has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for the Orofino/Grangeville Region, Lower Hells Canyon/Salmon River Region from 7 p.m. Monday to 10 a.m. Tuesday and the and the Northern and Southern Clearwater Mountains from 10 p.m. Monday through 4 p.m. Tuesday.

Orofino/Grangeville Region

Snow is expected with total snow accumulation of 3 to 6 inches above 3,000 feet, including Grangeville and Whitebird Hill, with up to 2 inches of snow in the lowest elevations.

Areas of particular concern include: Greer Grade, White Bird Grade, U.S. Highway 95 Slate Creek to Riggins, Camas Prairie, and Grangeville and vicinity.

For moderate winter weather impacts, expect disruptions to normal activities. Hazardous traveling conditions. Use extra caution while driving. Closures and disruptions to infrastructure may occur. The hazardous conditions could impact the Tuesday morning and evening commutes, especially over higher passes.

Orofino, elevation 1,039 feet

Sunday night: A chance of rain before 2 a.m., then a chance of rain after 4 a.m. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 38 degrees. Calm wind. Chance of precipitation is 50%.

Washington's Birthday: Rain, mainly after 3 p.m. High near 52. Calm wind becoming south around 6 miles per hour in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.

Monday night: Rain before 8 p.m., then snow, possibly mixed with rain. Snow level 4,100 feet lowering to 1,900 feet after midnight. Low around 32. West wind 3 to 6 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible.

Tuesday: Rain and snow likely, becoming all rain after 5 p.m. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 45. Calm wind becoming south around 5 mph in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible.

Tuesday night: Rain likely before 8 p.m., then rain and snow likely between 8 p.m. and 2 a.m., then snow likely after 2 a.m. Snow level 1,900 feet lowering to 1,400 feet after midnight. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 30. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible.

Northern and Southern Clearwater Mountains

Snow is expected. There is a likelihood moderate winter weather impacts. Total snow accumulations between 3 and 8 inches.

Areas of particular impact include: State Highway 11 Pierce to Headquarters, Pierce, Elk River, U.S. Highway 12 Lowell to Lolo Pass, Elk City and Dixie.

Falling temperatures and snow levels will bring snow to elevations below 3,000 feet Tuesday morning.

Washington's Birthday: A chance of rain and snow before 10 a.m., then rain likely between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m., then rain and snow after 3 p.m. High near 46. Light and variable wind. Chance of precipitation is 80%. Little or no snow accumulation expected.

Monday night: Rain and snow, becoming all snow after 10 p.m. Low around 25. Calm wind. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New snow accumulation of 1 to 3 inches possible.

Tuesday: Snow. High near 37. Light southwest wind. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New snow accumulation of 1 to 2 inches possible.

Tuesday night: Snow likely. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 23. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New snow accumulation of 1 to 2 inches possible.
